My SEA tour was spent as a 293X0 Ground Radio Operator, actually
assigned first to Task Force Alpha as a Combat Information Monitor -
Ground (Sept 68 to July 69). CIM-Gs monitored the sensors along the Ho
Chi Minh Trail as relayed to us by the Batcats in orbit. My specific
job was audio analysis of the sensor intercepts, using the same audio
spectrum analyzer as the Navy used in their Jezebel system. That story
has been told many times here, from several points of view, so I won't
retell it!

(We noticed a strange thing about the people assigned as CIM-Gs. There
was a wide mix of AFSCs. We had everything from Ground Safety to
Doppler Radar Mechanics... but most of us at one time had held the
292x0/202x0 Radio Intercept Operator AFSC from Security Service days.)

I was assigned (July-Nov 69) as NCOIC of TUOC Radio and the Base MARS
station at NKP. Base MARS ran phone patches 24 hours a day back to the
U.S.; TUOC Radio was one KWM-2A which monitored the same frequency used
by the 606th (?) SOS Civic Actions Teams. It also served as the HF
emergency backup for aircraft who were out of VHF/UHF range.
