HI, I served at Nakhon Phanom as the superintendent of Traffic Management.
(AFSC 60271 but since I filled a 9 level slot was awarded AFSC 60291) We
basically received and distributed all the cargo that arrived on the base.
Just as we shipped all retrograde cargo back to the United States and other
bases within southeast asia and PACAF. We dealt primarily with the
organization known as ETO. Which although supposedly a civilian entity was
run by the Thai Army. Long story there. We also received and shipped
unaccompanied baggage for those arriving and departing the station. We
performed the customs check at our warehouse. Port calls were another
function of branch. ONe of my accomplishments, was speeding up the shipment
of baggage, most baggage shipments prior to my arrival took from 4 to 5
weeks and sometimes longer to reach their destination in the US. BY
changeing procedures just a little bit we reached an average delivery time
of less than two weeks from the time it was turned in to arrival at
destination. Several shipments actually got there in less than 8 days.
Worked long and hard to improve port calls and manage to improve them some
what but there we were at the mercy of the ATCO in Bangkok.
